About Openbox Money
By Travis Haggar · Updated · Drafted with AI help
Openbox Money is a calm budgeting app for U.S. households. It puts your bank accounts, cards, investments, home and loans in one place, and works out what's safe to spend, which bills are coming and where your money goes. It's in a private beta now, by invitation only.
How we make money
One way: a subscription, Openbox Money Premium. It isn't on sale yet; the planned price is $7.99 a month or $79 a year, including any sales tax (pricing). Every connected bank costs us a fee each month, and the subscription is what pays for it.
There are no ads, no affiliate links and no paid placements, and nobody can pay to be recommended. We don't sell your data, share it for advertising or use it for lending decisions.
What we'll never do
- Show ads, or rank anything by what someone pays us.
- Sell your data or share it for advertising.
- Move your money. Openbox Money reads balances and transactions; it can't make payments or transfers.
- Show a spendable amount below $0. When more is going out than coming in, it shows $0 and says by how much (how Safe to spend works).
- Hide what Premium costs. The price, the renewal and the refund terms are shown before you pay.
Who builds it
I'm Travis Haggar. I build Openbox Money. I'm not a financial adviser. I decide what Openbox Money does. Spending, switching on payments, account and security settings, legal wording and deleting real data are my decisions.
How it's built
Safety checks come first. Our automated tests include checks that no spendable amount shows below $0 and that one household can't see another's data; each change runs the tests that cover it and gets a separate review before release, by a fresh AI reviewer that didn't write it.
The work itself is done by two AI developers. Claude, made by Anthropic, designs, builds and releases Openbox Money. Codex, made by OpenAI, gives second opinions and helps plan. I'm the only person on the team. How we write the guides is in our editorial policy, and how your data is protected is on the security page.
